LISTEN TO BERLIN: COMPILATION

Every year the LISTEN TO BERLIN: COMPILATION series represents the many auditory facets of the Berlin music scene.

What is the sound of Berlin? There are no short answers for what this amazing city stands for musically as Berlin certainly is a strange, colorful and ever-changing universe. With the series LISTEN TO BERLIN: COMPILATION, the Berlin Music Commission (BMC) strives to show the many faces of the city by seeking each year’s distinctive sound. Started in 2007, this project shines a light on the local flourishing music scene to give it added exposure towards the public, as well as the music industry, creative scenes and politics.

Every year, the BMC makes a call for participants to find Berlin’s most current sounds and publish them on a unique compilation. Berlin based artists, labels and publishers have the chance to submit their music, and perhaps be immortalized on this unique production. A jury of professionals from the extended network is changing every year to deliberate on the final selection. Most important conditions: the music has to be new and the artist based in Berlin.

Within 12 years of existence, the BMC has produced a over 40.000 CDs and received over 1.800 artist applications. Responding to this success, the BMC has taken the concept further with the LISTEN TO BERLIN: AWARD, which will take place for the fourth time this year as part of the Most Wanted: Music conference.
