"How to build strong communities - benefits and challenges of community work"
Community work, at its simplest, is the process of assisting people to improve their own communities by undertaking collective action.
Especially when it comes to the needs of marginalized groups in society, community work is an important tool to make the needs of the different groups visible and, in the best case, to initiate a process of change.
The core of this approach is to achieve concrete improvements in winnable struggles through self-organization. The goal is the empowerment of the marginalized groups in the sense of self-representation. However, the empowerment is explicitly organized and initiated by politically trained and experienced activists.
In this lecture, community work will be presented by means of some practical examples - and the challenges and advantages of these will be elaborated. It will also look at the benefits community work can offer to the music industry in general. After a short introduction, the participants will be allowed to get into conversation and discuss perspectives and visions for the future.
