Dear members, dear network partners,
Music is for everyone. However, not everyone has the same access to music. One of the reasons for this is racist discrimination: It is still a relevant topic in the music industry in 2023. This is demonstrated not least by numerous song lyrics and statements by artists in which racist patterns of discrimination are reproduced. But racist attacks at events and bookings by problematic bands also make it clear that people affected by racism continue to find it difficult to participate in music culture. Most recently, author Jasmina Kuhnke started a debate
about this when Rock am Ring and Rock im Park announced the band Pantera in the 2023 lineup.
How can you, as an actor, sensitize yourself to this and thus contribute to making concerts and festivals safer or racism-free places? This is the question addressed by the music industry discussion session "Anti-racism work in the music industry - How can we create racism-free spaces?
