Berlin, 10/18/2023 – In light of the current situation in the Middle East and the increase in anti-Semitic incidents in Berlin, the management of the Berlin Music Commission (BMC) has released a statement. It is important to emphasize that this statement represents the position of the management and is by no means able to reflect the spectrum of opinion of the entire BMC network.
Official statement of the management of the Berlin Music Commission:
“We mourn with the relatives and friends of all victims of the conflict in the Middle East and express our deepest sympathy and compassion.
We condemn in the strongest possible terms the inhuman terrorist attack by Hamas, which has cold-bloodedly calculated and carried out thousands of deaths in Israel and Gaza with the aim of escalation. Hamas is a fundamentalist terrorist organization that has trampled on all basic human values even before the attack.
In the face of this horror, we find it difficult to overcome our speechlessness and anger and find an appropriate response.
It shocks us that in our diverse and cosmopolitan city of Berlin, where people from more than 170 nations live together, fellow citizens have to fear becoming victims of anti-Semitic attacks. Very resolutely, we must all oppose the attempt to bring violent conflict into our community. We stand firmly by the side of our fellow Jewish women.
We condemn every form of anti-Semitism, racism and anti-Islamism and call for resolute opposition to any attempt to foment further violence, discord and hatred in our society as well, using peaceful means and the rule of law.”
